Every day in GourmetFuel HQ, we get emails and calls about weight loss. Questions like: “Is a low carb diet better than a low fat diet?” “How much weight will I lose?”
The answers to these simple questions can be quite complex and are totally subjective to the individual but there’s a simple truth that we can’t escape. Energy Balance.

But what ‘diet’ is best? It’s human nature to want the quick fix. We all get wowed by sensational success stories and testimonials. Instagram and Facebook feeds are crammed full with new exercise and nutrition Apps promising that their programme will be the answer to all your prayers and give you a six pack in 6 weeks.
I listened to a podcast last week by our friend Danny Lennon on Sigma Nutrition Radio. He had Christopher Gardner on talking about the results of his 12 month long study on weight loss, in particular low fat v’s low carb diet protocols, called DIETFITS. The results were interesting insofar as that neither group performed significantly better than the other but what was discussed was the quality of the food, that mindful eating was promoted and to enjoy meals. Which really aligns with our philosophy here at GourmetFuel. We love food, we don’t think you should feel like you’re being deprived. We want you to eat the right amounts, in a healthful manner and not worry about it. Take the stress out of it and just enjoy each meal without having to worry.
Then just yesterday, I had a chat with a client who told me he had lost 16lbs in the 8 weeks he was on the meal plan we designed for him. He’s delighted with himself and is really enjoying his meals.Now there’s nothing really sensational about this. He hasn’t lost a stone in a month, he’s lost it slowly, steadily and without any big fanfare. But what he’s thrilled with (and I am too) is he’s stopped worrying about what to eat and how much, like before when he was tracking everything on apps, and as a result feels he’s made a sensible change in his eating habits. He’s listening to his body’s own signals, in great form and has not felt deprived. For me, this is what it’s all about! Sustainable changes that will prevail. It’s not sexy, it won’t get a million Insta followers but it’s real, it’s long lasting, it’s sustainable and it’s achievable.
